The President who led the U.S. through the hard years of WWI, was Woodrow Wilson. For two years he fought to keep us out of WWI, even after the sinking of the Lusitania. Following that, the Germans continued to use unrestricted submarine warfare and in 1917 released a declaration of war. During the next 18 months, the U.S. built an army of 4 million men. In all the time, Wilson spoke of "peace without victory and without revenge". And on January 8,1918 he released the Fourteen Points as a basis for peace settlement.
Gavrilo Princip was important during WWI because he was the person who assassinated Franz Ferdinand. He shot at the archduke from five feet away, and hit him in the neck and his wife in the abdomen. After the shooting, Princip then turned the gun upon himself but was seized and arrested.
