Chapter Introduction
"The Stage is Set for War" The Great War(Chapter 13) also known as World War I started in a little over a decade which impelled a war that would engulf Europe and spread across the globe.
WWI began with an assassins bullet of Franz Ferdinand archduke of Austria-Hungary by a Serbian terrorist group called the Black Hand, which prompted Austria-Hungary to declare war on Serbia on July 28, 1914. The War soon escalated as European nations realized the implications of this war.
- In World War I, countries were separated by the Allies and the Central Powers. Allies consisted of:
- Great Britain
- Italy
- Russia
- France
- Japan
- Central Powers consisted of:
- Germany
- Austria-Hungary
- Bulgaria
- Ottoman Empire
World War I had the "domino effect", by that I mean Germany declares war on Russia, Germany declares War on France, Germany invades Belgium, Great Britain declares War on Germany, and so on.
WWI was by far an incredible significance as to the many men lost, materials used, the downfall of empires, and most importantly the setting of World War II.
